Two arrested for rape in Quepem

QUEPEM: Quepem police on Thursday arrested two persons, including a senior citizen, on the charge of raping a girl from Assam. This is the third rape case reported in the State within a week.

The police gave the names of the accused as Shambhunath Singh (32), a native of Delhi, and Sudhakar Naik (63). 

Police said that one of the accused, Singh brought the girl to Goa on the pretext of providing a job. After they arrived in Goa on July 26, he kept her at his sister’s flat at Quepem, where he allegedly raped her on two occasions, police said. 

After two days Singh called Naik to the flat where the latter allegedly 

raped her after being offered a spiked drink, police said.

Police investigations revealed that Singh called Naik as a customer and took Rs 3000 from him. Singh also used his sister’s flat as she had gone to Delhi. Since he was unemployed Singh wanted to force the girl into prostitution and make a living from her earnings.

The incident came to light when the victim managed to contact the police control room and narrated the incident.

Quepem PI Deepak Pednekar, along with PSI Veronica Coutinho and other policemen, rushed to the flat and rescued the girl. Later the police arrested both the accused.

This is the third rape case reported in Goa within a week, the other being reported at Colva and Ponda police stations.
