PONDA: Ponda Police on Wednesday arrested two truck drivers from Postawada Honda Sattari namely Usman s/o Adam Sayyad (26) and Saiju s/o Joy Vargis (28), originally from Tamil Nadu for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl inside a car at Usgao-Ponda.
An offence has been registered for raping and threatening the girl under section 376 (D) and 506 (2). Both the accused were arrested today from Bicholim. Ponda Police also seized the car used for the offence, glass of which appeared with tinted black window.
The victim is from Pernem and the incident had taken place in the first week of June and the incident came to light on July 1 after her mother took her to doctor at a hospital as victim had missed her menstrual cycle and learnt to be pregnant.
According to Ponda DySP Nelson Albuquerque, one accused Usman and the victim were friends on a social media website and began interacting with each other. In the first week of June, the accused called the victim on her mobile and asked her to meet him at Honda. Later he took her in a truck to Margao and after unloading the gravel from truck they returned back to Honda. After reaching Honda he introduced the victim to his friend Saiju Vargis. Later both the accused took her in a Santro Car (GA04-E-5077) to Usgao in an isolated place and allegedly raped her one-by-one inside the Car.
In the month of July when girl complained of feeling unwell her mother took her to hospital at Pernem where doctor declared she was pregnant following which Pernem Police were informed. The Pernem Police after conducting inquiry forwarded the case to Ponda Police as the rape took place under Ponda jurisdiction.
