PONDA: Two brothers who murdered their own brother were convicted by District and Session Court Judge Bella Naik at Ponda.
Public Prosecutor Satyawan Raut Desai said that the guilt of the two brothers was proved and they were convicted by the court. He said that the convicts murdered their brother for failing to meet their demand for money.
According to Desai, the incident took place at Ashewada in Bethora in 2011. Victim Thavru Wallu Chavan (45), from Sidhapur Karnataka, was happily residing in Bethora with his children and wife. He was a contractor and became wealthy.
His two brothers Hiru Wallu Chavan (50) and Taru Wallu Chavan (40) who were jealous of his fortune often used to demand money from Thavur. But as their demand could not be fulfilled by Thavru, both Hiru and Taru conspired and went to Thavru’s house on November 18, 2011, at 7.45 pm and started an argument with Thavru, which turned violent and Taru caught hold of Thavuru, while Hiru slit his neck with a knife resulting in his death. There after both fled from the spot.
Police arrested them within 24 hours after crime. The main accused Hiru was arrested at Anmod Ghat while he was trying to flee to his native place at Karnataka while Taru was arrested at Farmagudi. It is learnt that the main accused Hiru was also involved in other crimes at Maharashtra and has criminal background.
DySP Serafin Dias, PI CL Patil, and two PSIs conducted the panchanma. The police then filed charge-sheet against the two under Section 302 read with Section 34 of IPC. The offence was proved.
Court examined 23 witnesses including the wife of the victim.
