VASCO: Two policemen attached to Vasco traffic cell prevented a woman and her daughter from committing suicide by jumping from Zuari Bridge on Sunday morning.
According to reports, police constable M Venkata Prasad and an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) police constable Bhagwantrao Melakar were present near Zuari bridge when they noticed a 38-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter were walking towards Zuari Bridge from Cortalim junction in suspicious manner.
They noticed that the women was speaking on mobile phone and was crying. As they suspected some foul play, they intimated Police Sub-Inspector S L Kambli of the same and without wasting time started following the woman and her daughter and caught hold of them before they could jump out of Zuari Bridge.
“The woman and her daughter were brought to a safer place next to the Hanuman temple. She said that she was under severe depression due to family dispute, while her daughter disclosed that she and her mother wanted to end their lives by jumping into the river from Zuari Bridge,” police said.
The woman and her daughter were handed over to the Verna police.
