Abdul Nasir and Ilyas Ismael have been detained under Section 41 of the CrPC as a precautionary measure while interrogation was underway till late night. According to Panjim police, the duo, reportedly residents of Margao, were at Dona Paula distributing pamphlets that spoke against ISIS.
The police refused to give details but it is learnt that the contents also mentioned controversial Zakir Naik’s NGO.
“People at the spot called the police informing about the activity (distribution of the pamphlets). Panjim police rushed to the spot and
detained the men. They were brought to the police station and interrogated wherein both denied links with terrorism. Instead, they claimed to be anti-ISIS and anti-jihad,” a police officer said requesting anonymity.
The intelligence bureau and anti-terrorist squad were thereafter roped in to interrogate the men.
“Since there is mention of ISIS and the controversial NGO, we do not want to take any risk. As such both are in custody,” a police officer said. Both suspects are reportedly related to each other.
