PONDA: In two fire incidents that took place at Ponda and Bethora, on Sunday, heavy losses were suffered by the owners.
In the Ponda incident, a shop named ‘Bombay Sale’ situated in a building near Kaziwada facing the main road, caught fire at around 9.30 in the morning.
According to its owner Anvar Irani, goods including plastering items and utensils worth around Rs 80 lakh were destroyed in the fire. However, the Ponda fire personnel said they were yet to estimate the losses. Two fire tenders were used to douse the fire. The fire incident paralysed traffic and caused panic among passersby. The owner suspects that fire was caused by a short circuit.
In the Bethora incident that occurred at 4 pm, a flat belonging to Nilkant Naik caught fire following which Ponda Fire Personnel rushed the spot and doused it. However, before the fire personnel could reach the spot, property worth Rs 50,000 was destroyed. Fire personnel suspect that the incident was cause by a short circuit.
