Two held for selling fake leather products

Crime Branch sleuths arrested two persons for selling spurious leather craft products in the name of three overseas companies, in separate raids at two stores on the coastal belt, late on Thursday night.
The raid was carried out based on a complaint filed by investigating officer of strategic properties Anil Kumar, on behalf of S A Cartier International, N V Cartier International B V and Montblanc Simlo GMBH.
Alleged accused identified as Dharmender Kanoji and Ganesh Dey are arrested under Copyright Act and cheating. “The authorized Companies are into trading pure leather products mainly ladies hand bags…” said a Crime Branch official.
The team which split into two first raided a leather crafts store at Calangute and caught red-handed Kanoji selling duplicate products. On questioning the worker employed at the store for the last two years disclosed the owner’s name as Nitin Thakkar, a resident of Gaura Waddo at Calangute.
“The owner is presently out of station…In the meantime, we are proceeding with the raid probe,” informed a CB source.
Another store, namely ‘Original Sake’ at Candolim was subsequently raided to unearth same fake products. Dey, a native of Assam was also arrested who on questioning disclosed the owner’s name as Suraj Shuivani. The worker has been employed at the store for the last four years.
On scrutiny, the teams discovered that the stores sold products without any authorization from the above said companies. Sources further inform that the owners will be called for questioning.
The alleged accused have been booked under Sections 51 and 63 of Copyright Act 1957 and 420 of Indian Penal Code.
