VALPOI: Two persons from Bihar were arrested on charges of attempting to steal gold ornaments in Valpoi town.
Valpoi Police Inspector Shivram Vaigankar said that one Fatima Shaikh of Sayyadwada area of the town complained that one Mohammad Shaikh Alam and Bhagat Satyendra Kumar had visited her on Tuesday evening, claiming to be experts in polishing steel and brass utensils as well as gold ornaments. Believing them, the complainant handed over some steel utensils and two gold bangles for polishing.
But when Fatima Shaikh dipped the bangles in water, she noticed that they had lost their shine. Suspecting something fishy, she lodged a police complaint.
PSI Yeshwant Mandrekar and a police team visited the site and later arrested both the accused on charges of attempting to steal gold ornaments.
The materials used to polish the ornaments have been seized from the two accused, Said PI Vaigankar.
