Two waiters at a city five-star hotel were detained by the police on suspicion of stealing Rs 1.40 lakh from the hotel’s cash counter, on Monday evening.
The detention was made after a complaint was filed by the owner Ashok Nayar that Rs 1.40 lakh cash and cameras worth Rs 3000 were missing from the restaurant cash counter, Panjim police informed.
“He complained that after shutting his business for the day, he left the restaurant for home on Sunday mid-night. On the next day, the manager called him informing that some unknown men removed the keys from the drawer and opened the cash counter and vanished with the huge cash and valuables,” said an officer.
The complaint was registered after which all waiters were summoned at the police station for questioning. While, two waiters suspected for allegedly committing the crime were detained, remaining staffers were asked to go back.
