Two held in attempt to murder incident

The Maina-Curtorim police on Wednesday arrested two of the five accused involved in an attempt to murder incident at Davorlim.

MARGAO: The Maina-Curtorim police on Wednesday arrested two of the five accused involved in an attempt to murder incident at Davorlim. 

Maina-Curtorim PI Gurudas Kadam gave the names of the arrested as Mehbook Sheik, 32, resident of Verem, Bardez, and native of Kanataka and Ibrahim Ismail Saju, 24, of Pandamol, Quepem.

The duo who along with three others were absconding after assaulting Altaf Nandihalli (35) near Davorlim panchayat and grocery shop owner Mehboob Khan Pathan (60) with iron rods and pipes, causing serious injuries to Nandahali and also injuring Pathan. 

While Pathan has been discharged from Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, after two days in hospital, PI Kadam informed that condition of Nandihalli continued to be critical. 

The two accused were nabbed by the Margao police LIB team at the Fatorda junction when they were heading to meet their lawyer at Comba-Margao. 

Margao PI Sudesh Naik said that his police station LIB team was doing the rounds at Fatorda when they spotted the duo wanted in the attempt to murder traveling in a Maruti taxi van from Ponda to Margao. The van was intercepted at 3 pm and the duo arrested. Sensing trouble, both Saju and Sheik had jumped from the van, but the LIB team members managed to ban them after a hot chase.
