CURCHOREM: Two women from Carrianoddi near Jamia Masjid at Curchorem had a miraculous escape when the pipe connecting the domestic gas cylinder caught fire and their kitchen and dining room was totally gutted,
Rizvana Sharmadi along with her cousin Chand Bi Shaikh were cooking food at Rizvana’s house when the incident occurred.
“We immediately informed the fire services as soon as we were informed about the fire by an unknown person,” disclosed Curchorem Police.
At the time of the incident, Rizvana’s husband Ahmad Sharmadi was at the masjid. Though the fire spread throughout the kitchen, the gas cylinder did not explode.
However, all the utensils like refrigerator, furniture including the six-seater dining table were totally gutted said Head Constable Paresh Shetkar who is investigating the case.
On seeing the fire, both women ran out of the house and hence saved themselves though Chand Bi suffered minor injuries and was rushed to South Goa District Hospital for treatment.
Fire service personnel succeeded in extinguishing the fire in half an hour after they were called at 1:20 pm. The damage caused is estimated to be worth around Rs. 2 lakhs.
