VASCO: Following a tip off, the Verna police on Monday night raided a building located at Cumborda in Verna and rescued two victims of sex trafficking. Police have also arrested a brothel keeper and the owner of building.
According to Verna PI Uday Parab, the raid was conducted at around 11.40 pm and caught the accused persons red handed.
“We received information that sex racket is under operation in a building. We also got information that the building was used by a brothel keeper (identity withheld) who was staying at Ashraf Nagar Verna and is a native of Mumbai. So, we raided the premises and rescued two women, aged 20 and 32, who were trafficked for sex.”
“During investigation, we came to know that the brothel keeper and the owner of building Jerry Carvalho had procured the victims who were natives of West Bengal and Andheri, respectively, for sex,” Parab said.Explaining how the police caught the culprits red-handed, he said the police sent a person as decoy “customer and rescued the victims who were forced into sex”.
PI Parab said that the brothel keeper was using the building of Carvalho since long time and was allegedly exploiting the trafficked women for sex work.
“The accused persons are placed under arrest after following all Supreme Court guidelines and the victim girls are lodged in Women Protection Home at Merces,” PI Parab added.
The case has been registered under Section 3, 4, 5, & 6 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and further investigating into the case is in progress.
