PANJIM: BJP State unit President Vinay Tendulkar has said that a five-member delegation of the saffron party is expected to meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a bid to request him to withdraw the Central governments order barring Additional Solicitor General Atmaram Nadkarni to represent Goa in the Mhadei issue.
Speaking to Herald, Tendulkar said, “We have already requested for an appointment with the prime minister’s office and the State BJP unit is hoping to get an appointment after the March 11, because at present the prime minister has a busy schedule campaigning in Uttar Pradesh (UP).”
“We have discussed and decided that a five member delegation will meet Modi which includes Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik and MP Narendra Sawaikar and I,” said Tendulkar
He further said that this meet with Prime Minister would be a crucial one as the State unit would be requesting to reverse the decision of the Union Ministry of Law and Justice barring Additional Solicitor General Atmaram Nadkarni to represent Goa in the Mhadei water dispute issue.
“Our main agenda while meeting the Prime Minister will only focus on requesting him not to dissolve the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT) and allow Additional Solicitor General Atmaram Nadkarni to continue to represent the state,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told Herald also confirmed that he has already written to the prime minister seeking an appointment to discuss the Mhadei issue stating, “Earlier PM’s busy schedule had scuttled the State’s plan as he was busy in the election campaign in UP.”
Last month, Parsekar through a communication to the Prime Minister had sought his intervention in the Nadkarni matter and had stated that the Central government’s decision appears to have been taken due to political influence from Karnataka. Last year, the State had expressed its view requesting not to include MWDT under ISRDT.
