MARGAO: A number of village panchayats are upset with the State government for ignoring their objections to the installation of mobile towers in their villages, especially in residential areas and on government school land. Sarpanchas have repeatedly conveyed their objection to the district administration and ministers, but end up facing the wrath of the locals, as they have been unable to halt these projects.
Chinchinim Sarpanch Valentino Barreto, Sao Jose De Areal Sarpanch Joyce Dias and Camurlim Sarpanch Basil Fernandes, amongst others, slammed the new IT policy, through which the government is allowing the erection of mobile towers even though the panchayats have not issued any permissions for it.
