PANJIM: All Goa Government Recognised Unaided Schools Association (AGGRUSA) on Saturday held a peacefully rally in Panjim as part of the national movement for reforms in education and to express solidarity with the parent body NISA.
Stakeholders, including educationists, parents and students from various towns, joined the rally that culminated at the parade ground in Panjim to raise a collective voice in support of reforms in educational policies.
“An issue that hasn’t affected Goa yet, but which will be implemented in the future is the 25 per cent reservation of seats rule. We are not running away from our responsibility. It is a good initiative, but if a school blocks 25 per cent of the seats, it messes up whole system,” Sunshine Worldwide School principal Abhay Mathur said.
He added, “It will mean other children will have to cover the cost of education for the children who cannot afford and it puts pressure on finances. Schools may not be able to invest in their own upgradation, 25 per cent seats have to be reserved, but let the cost be refundable.”
Gyan Vikas School administrator Gautam Karangate said, “When a child joins a school, the child is not only provided with knowledge to select the right career, it is the environment and the values inculcated. Schools are restricted by rules and regulations and therefore cannot expose students to knowledge. Schools should be given liberty to provide better facilities for students.”
Over one lakh education stakeholders gathered in New Delhi on Saturday, to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and voice their collective concerns.
