MARGAO: Seraulim villagers finally have some good news, as their routinely depressing long wait at the rail gate will soon end, as Konkan Railway has agreed for a road underpass, allowing vehicles to pass without any obstruction and delay.
A meeting, in this regard, was convened at the South Goa Collectorate between the local MLA Churchill Alemao, rail officials Joseph George Chief Manager, Strategic Planning and Business Management, KRC, Deputy General Manager (PR) KRC Baban Ghatge, engineers and the sarpanch and panchas of Seraulim.
Due to the location and the topography, there were major hitches to have over-bridge and hence it was decided to have an underpass. The Railways have agreed to initiate work after the process of estimation.
Alemao said this was one of his election promises and was happy to fulfill the same.
“There was an over-bridge of Rs 38 crore budget, which I think wasn’t possible. Now we have planned for a 2 lane each 2 box type under pass and will be done at a tentative cost of Rs 10 crore. The cost will be shared by Railway and government of Goa,” he said.
The proposal for the same will be ready by October 10 and would be submitted to the chief minister.
The underpass would also serve as a model for the villages like Chandor, which are planning a similar underpass.
