PANJIM: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa on Monday forecast that the monsoons will arrive in Goa by June 6, even as the State received unseasonal showers on Monday morning.
Speaking to Herald, IMD-Goa, Director M L Sahu said, “The present rain and thunder cannot be called pre-monsoon showers but are unseasonal summer showers. Since the monsoon is not set over Kerala, Goa is still far. We can approximately say that the monsoons will arrive in Goa by June 6 with pre-monsoons showers almost four days earlier.”
As per the IMD weather forecast, light to moderate rain/ thunder showers are likely to occur over Goa in isolated places on May 16 and 19. The weather is most likely to be dry on May 17 and 18.
“Rainfall occurred at most places over Goa. The amounts of rainfall, Valpoi 4cm, Canacona and Sanguem 2 cm each, Pernem, Margao, Mapusa and Quepem 1 cm each. There was no large change in the maximum temperatures. They were above normal over South Goa and were normal over North Goa. The highest maximum temperature of 36 degrees C was recorded at Mormugao,” IMD said. No warning has been issued to fishermen on the Goa-Maharashtra coast.
The forecast for Panjim in the next 24 hours is partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain/thunder showers with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 33 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius. In the next 48 hours partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain/thunder showers are expected with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 34 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.
