OLD GOA: Advising people to put into practice the virtues of Mahatma Gandhi in their lives to make Goa and India a better place to live in, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar particularly laid thrust on the leader’s virtue of cleanliness while appealing to the gathering to make ‘Swachh Bharat, Nitall Goem’ a success.
Speaking after garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on Thursday, Parrikar stressed on three virtues of Gandhiji – non-violence, work ethics and cleanliness.
Speaking on non-violence, Parrikar said: “It is not only important to practice non-violence but also important to avoid circumstances which can lead to violence.”
“If we understand each other, then any problems that arise will be solved automatically,” he added.
Focusing on Gandhi’s work ethics, Parrikar said Gandhiji believed that ‘work is God’ and advised the public to work hard, which, he said, would ensure prosperity of the nation.
Finally, Parrikar touched on cleanliness and made an appeal to the people to keep their surroundings clean so that the ‘Swachh Bharat, Nitall Goem’ campaign of the government becomes a success.
“Today, we are starting the second phase of the campaign,” Parrikar said while requesting the public to help the government in meeting the deadline of December 19, 2015, in making Goa a garbage-free place.
Later, the CM paid tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri.
