VASCO: After achieving success in taking up de-weeding works on certain stretch of Maimollem field or lake, the US-based Microdot separation technology would be used to clean a portion of Maimollem field in Vasco and if the experiment becomes a hit, then similar technology would be used at all the water bodies in Vasco, informed Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida.
According to Almeida, US-based Eco Tabs company which has successfully taken up cleaning of famous Dal Lake in Kashmir and another lake at Delhi approached the Mormugao Municipal Council with the offer to clean a portion of Maimollem filed, also known as Maimollem lake using eco tablets. He said that the MMC has agreed to allow the company to cordon off a portion of lake behind Hotel Tania so that the water remains stagnant and the company would then use eco tablets that are “Intelligent”, easy to use, and 100 percent eco-friendly.
“As per the presentation given to us the Microdot Separation Technology is an innovative solution employed in eco-tabs to treat wastewater in pit latrines, lakes, water bodies etc. Eco-tabs oxygenate the water, eliminate odor and biodegrade organic and chemical pollutants and thus as a trial run we have decided to allow them to clean a portion of Maimollem field and if the experiments is a success then we would be using the same technology all over the Maimollem field as well as other water bodies in Vasco” Almeida said.
Meanwhile, for the officials of Eco tabs, this is the first time that the company would be taking up such project in South India. They said that if the Eco tab treatment is applied correctly, the effects include a clear reduction of both the smell and volume in the lake. The treatment involves dropping one eco-tab and one shock sachet into the pit on the first day, and one eco-tab per week for another three weeks and we are sure that the cordoned off portion of lake would be cleaned and can be put for use in three months time and that too naturally” said Ajay Mahajan, official of Eco Tabs.
The main intension behind taking up several measures to clean the Maimollem filed is to convert the area into tourist hotspot having all sorts of facilities including boating and other recreational facilities.
