PONDA: In a meeting held at Gurunath temple at Usgao near MRF factory locals of Usgao decided to intensify the agitation against the MRF Expansion Project deciding to file a petition with the NGT citing that they are already facing too much pollution and don’t want expansion of such project which will be robotic and will neither produce any jobs. Locals alleged that the project is going to destroy village environment, fresh air and create water scarcity and pollution.
Environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar as well Ramesh Gawas today attended the protest meeting organised by Usgao locals against the proposed expansion project of MRF at Usgao and assured to provide their support and guide the movement launched by Usgao locals in a lawful and democratic manner against the expansion project of MRF.
Kerkar said that thousands of coconut and other trees are cut for the project; people have right to fight against polluting project. He suggested that a complaint be filed with National Green Tribunal against the project.
Environmentalist Prakash Gawas said that clean environment is a fundamental right, therefore, polluting industries violate this fundamental right.
“Before giving approval to any project, there is need for public hearings to know about its disadvantages. When a new project is proposed, it is necessary to give information about advantages and disadvantages of such units to locals residing in surrounding area,” he said.
