Usgao market to be rebuilt by SGPDA

Vendors thank Herald for highlighting their plight

PONDA: After a long agitation and many shutdowns, Usgao locals will finally get a new full-fledged market at Tisk and Herald did play a role in the same.
The South Goa Planning and Development ( SGPDA) has decided to demolish its old dilapidated market at Tisk and reconstruct in its place a new market, the master plan for which would be submitted to government soon.
In its June 9, 2017, edition, under the heading “It’s a Risky business” Herald had highlighted how the vendors were risking their lives for the sake of livelihood by conducting business at the dilapidated SGPDA market.
In pursuance of the decision to reconstruct the market at Tisk, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, SGPDA Member Secretary Ashok Kumar, engineers and planning assistants inspected the building on Tuesday.
Ravi told the reporters covering their visit that the vendors would be temporarily shifted to temporary place for conducting their business in the premises of SGPDA located near market.
Meanwhile, the vendors and shopkeepers thanked Herald for highlighting their plight.
Thanking Herald for highlighting their plight, vendor Nyaneshwar Naik said, “The Usgao SGPDA Market is in a poor condition. The iron beams are exposed at several places; roof sheets are broken leading to leakage; the ceiling plaster is falling off at many places. The vendors fear working in the building and were demanding immediate repairs.”
