PANJIM, FEB 1
Utt Goenkara today sought transfer of Calangute Police Inspector Manjunath Desai for improper inquiry into suspicious death of Rajendra alias Rajkumar Naik at Calangute.
Briefing media here, the organization has claimed that police are making all efforts to ensure that the suspicious death of Rajendra is shown as an accident.
“We want that PI Desai be transferred from Calangute police station…It seems that he has personal interest in the case. He is trying to sabotage the case investigation so as the deceased’s family do not get compensation,” he said.
Rajendra, a taxi driver by profession had left for work on January 24 but did not return back home. His wife Reshma called him on mobile which he did not respond.
After a while, an unknown voice told Reshma that a van was laying abandon at Chowgm road at Saligao and that one person was shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Reshma told reporters that her relatives saw her husband’s body in a pool of blood with his face completely distorted.
“His eyes were 90 percent swollen and his lips, head and others parts of his body suffered injuries,” she said adding that she strongly suspects a case of murder and not a case of accidental death as claimed by the police.
Motorbike rider Michael Gupta was arrested but after a hue-and-cry by the family members suspecting foul play.
The family also alleged that the police did not conduct panchanama.
“Relatives were informed that though Rajendra was a victim of the accident, he was also badly assaulted by unknown men ‘which might have resulted into his death.’ But Calangute police have failed to trace the assailants,” Utt Goenkara vice president Jatin Naik said.
Rajendra has left behind his wife and four minor children, who reside in a rented room at Taleigao. The NGO urged senior police officers to probe into the case thoroughly so as deceased Rajendra’s family gets justice.
