MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council may suddenly feel the absence of key persons on key positions in the civic body.

Blame it on the delay to fill up the vacant posts on time or otherwise, the civic body has indeed felt absence of officers who have either retired or have proceeded on leave.

While the MMC Chief Officer Sandhya Kamat was holding additional charge of Quepem sub-division till Tuesday, the Municipal engineer John Abreu is holding additional charge of Margao and the City Corporation of Panjim.

That’s not all. The Accounts and Taxation officer, Helekar, is holding additional charge of Mormugao Municipal Council, shuttling between Margao and Vasco.

It’s now near a month since Municipal Superintendent, Chari, retired from office and the post has been lying vacant since then. The cabin occupied by Chari stands locked since then.

Herald understands two posts of head clerks are lying vacant since the last one month, while a vacancy has arisen in the accounts department after the incumbent went on maternity leave.

Sources said a post of UDC has fallen vacant following the demise of the clerk

When contacted, Chief Officer Sandhya Kamat confirmed that a number of key posts have fallen vacant and that efforts are on to fill up the vacancies.
