PANJIM: Finding violations in its inspection report of work underway at Vainguinim beach, the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has issued a show-cause notice to the hotel concerned.
It may be recalled following complaints, a joint inspection was held at the beach on April 23, 2021 by GCZMA and the Taleigao panchayat.
Incidentally this inspection was carried out a few days after GCZMA had carried out inspection on April 20, 2021.
In the report of the earlier inspection, GCZMA had stated the ongoing work was as per the approvals granted by the government. However, in the latest inspection report, GCZMA said there were violations in the conditions that it had put forward to the hotel while giving permission for the work. They pointed out that ‘repair’ work was permitted, new work was undertaken instead. They also pointed out concrete was used , which is prohibited on the beach falling in a No Development Zone area (NDZ) within the High Tide Line (HTL) and that eco-friendly materials were supposed to have been used .
In the show-cause notice issued, GCZMA has asked why direction should not be issued for demolishing the structures and restoring the land to its original condition. It also asked why a penalty should not be imposed. GCZMA has asked that their notice be replied to by May 3, 2021.
