CANACONA: An apparent misunderstanding between two groups of protestors caused a ruckus of sorts, as GPYC President Valanka Alemao and her aides from Salcete lead a peaceful march through Chaudi town and proceeded to the Ruby Residency tragedy site.
Some heated words were exchanged between local residents and others, with the local youth alleging that some supporters of Alemao had bad mouthed the locals, while lighting candles across the Ruby Residency gate as a mark of respect to all those who had lost their lives in the tragedy.
According to sources, Alemao, while expressing her solidarity, had given a boost to the ‘We Canconkars’ peace protest near the Dy Collector’s office, and reportedly took over after the ‘We Canconcars’ had ended their candle lighting programme.
Alemao then led a candle procession which marched along the highway and proceeded to a Chaudi Ward internal street, where some residents joined in the procession.
After the candles were placed across the Ruby Residency main entrance gate, someone was heard allegedly bad-mouthing the local residents present in the procession. This infuriated the few local youth, who retaliated and a heated exchange of words took place between the two groups, as more local youth converged at the site.
A police team quickly responded by closing the date to the Ruby Residency.
Later, an organizer of ‘We Canconkars’ clarified that there had been a misunderstanding between some youth that had led to the ruckus.
