VALPOI: Taking serious exceptions to sewage being let into to storm water drains in the town, Valpoi Municipal Council Chairperson Parvin Faizal Shaikh said that stringent legal actions would be initiated against the violators.
Parvin said that it has brought to her notice that sewage from many houses within the jurisdiction of Valpoi Municipal Council are being let into rain water drainage resulting in overflow of water during monsoon season. “Because of this many health related issues can occur. I have instructed my supervisors to identify such houses and send them notices,” she said.
“My municipality is strict in maintaining cleanliness and protecting our citizens from the vector borne disease like malaria and dengue. All citizens should come together and take a pledge not to litter in public areas, which alone would preserve the environment from getting polluted. Civic authorities are doing their work but every individual in the town should take responsibility to keep their environs clean. By keeping the surroundings clean, the medical bills that might be incurred could also be avoided. Thus, it is in our own hands to preserve the ecology in good shape,” Parvin added.
