VALPOI: The division bench of the High Court comprising Justice R S Borde and F M Reis disposed a public litigation petition filed by two students through their parents and a lawyer seeking urgent repairs and maintenance of Navodaya Vidyalaya premises at Valpoi.
The petitioner, Subodh Shridhar Dessai, stated that the petitioners had pointed to the court that after the school buildings were constructed in 1995, the Navodaya Samitti failed to carry out maintenance or repairs.
“The premises were unfit for human habitation and were occupied by teachers and minor students. It was also pointed that about 351 students including 184 girls were studying in this residential school.” Adv S N Joshi also pointed that pendency of litigation about ownership of land cannot be ground to put students and teachers life at risk.
Adv General A N S Nadkarni informed that during pendency of the writ petition, the State government carried out repairs through GSIDC.
In view of the statement of Nadkarni, the High Court disposed off the writ petition.
