Valpoi youth questions Vishwajit at meet, gets arrested

VALPOI:  Late-night drama unfolded in Valpoi in a case that reeks of high-handedness, a youth who questioned Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane at an election corner meeting, got arrested after the meeting.
The issue centered over the meeting held at Hivrem village that was attended by around 200 villagers.  Darshan Gaonkar, the youngster involved, questioned Rane and said he had been working with him for the last 15 years and why he had not been given a job till date and why Rane was lying every time. However, according to Hivrem villagers, the Valpoi MLA’s personal assistant called the Valpoi police station and told the police to arrest Gaonkar.
Later that night, Valpoi police arrested Gaonkar under section 151 (arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences).  And on Thursday afternoon, he was produced in the sub -divisional magistrate, Valpoi, where he was given bail with a personal bond. The Valpoi police claim that the complainant was anonymous.
“I have not done anything wrong. I have asked our MLA, and the Health Minister a single question about he has not given me a job and why he has lied to me every time. He is our representative and we have been voting for him for so many years now. So I have the full right to ask him the questions. However it seems that if any voter asks a question to his/her representative, the reply means he/she will get arrested by the police. This shows that the poor people of Sattari cannot raise their voice”, said Gaonkar.
