MARGAO: Ration cards issued to migrants dominated the gram sabha of Varca Village Panchayat held on Sunday with the meeting authorising the panchayat body to seek legal opinion to initiate action against the authorities issuing ration cards to the migrants.
When gram sabha member questioned Sarpanch Charlton Lourenco over the steps initiated by the panchayat over the 180 ration cards issued to migrants staying in the village, he replied saying that the authorities have maintained that the details are not being available with them
The Sarpanch further informed that the Mamlatdar has asked the panchayat to approach the DRDA project director for details which he said to be being followed up. Aggrieved villagers said the panchayat should act against the Mamlatdar after taking legal opinion. Locals renting premises were also blamed for giving NOC to migrants for availing ration card with gram sabha member Thomas A Costa requesting locals to be cautious.
Gram sabha member Nazario Pinto raised the issue of panchayat failure to prepare development plan to avail funds of Rs one crore given by the government under Deendayal Panchayati Raj Infrastructural Scheme.
He pointed that panchayat body could construct Panchayat Ghar by availing the fund as well carry other development projects, while demanding a special gram sabha to discuss development projects to be taken under the scheme.
After a lengthy debate, Sarpanch Lourenco agreed to a suggestion to set a time-frame to invite suggestions for various developmental projects to be taken under the scheme.
Discussion was also held on collection of sopo for current year and action taken on sopo collection of the previous year. Sarpanch informed gram sabha that in view of High Court order, the panchayat body has resolved to carry collection of door-to-door plastic garbage every week. He highlighted that it would be only after Goa State Pollution Control Board is satisfied on action taken by the panchayat that the ban of issuing of license to multiple dwelling units would be lifted by High Court.
