MARGAO: The Varca gram sabha unanimously resolved to name the junction at the village church after illustrious son of the village and noted Konkani write late Fr Freddy J da Costa after Thomas D’Costa tabled the proposal.
Sarpanch Roland Fernandes explained that Tomazinho Cardoso President of the committee to celebrate 125 Years of Tiatr had written to the panchayat to name any one road in the village after Fr Freddy in recognition of the yeomen service he had rendered to Konkani.
The panchayat had written to Tomazinho that since Fr Freddy hailed from Laxette ward of the village, the road leading to that ward be named after him after taking the permissions and licenses from the authorities by the committee.
However, the villagers on Sunday after discussing the matter resolved that instead of naming a road after him, the main junction in the village near the church be named after Fr Freddy J da Costa.
