MARGAO: The Varca gram sabha members on Sunday urged the panchayat to procure a list of all the ration card holders under RTI from mamlatdar and resolved that mamlatdar should be asked to stop giving ration card to migrants.
Sarpanch Crosly Charlton Lourenco informed gram sabha that earlier the sabha to have adopted resolution demanding that no ration card be given to migrants and of copy of resolution has been sent to Mamlatdar office by the previous sarpanch on Dec 12, 2012.
Villagers lamented that the migrants with the help of ration cards avail various government benefits and enrol their names on the voters list.
They demanded that panchayat body take up verification of all ration cards in village after getting the list from mamlatdar and also check whether proper procedure has been followed in issuing the ration cards.
Villagers also adopted a resolution opposing new airport at Mopa and retaining and upgrading Dabolim as Goa’s lone airport. They were informed of such a resolution been taken by gram sabha earlier and a copy of the same had been forwarded to the authorities concerned in April last.
The gram sabha members demanded an end to the stray dog menace.
The Sarpanch stated that he would write to Goa Animal Welfare Trust to help the panchayat to get the stray dogs sterilized. The gram sabha was also informed that panchayat has completed pre-monsoon works in the village and also to have rectified the queries in audit report.
