Varunapuri to MPT flyover work hits roadblock

VASCO: The much awaited flyover project from Varunapuri to MPT which was started in the year 2017 has now hit the roadblock due to the pending bill of Rs 23.4 crore.
General Manager of Gamon India Pvt Ltd Prakash Bramhapurkar said that the work is moving at Snail’s pace due to the pending bill. Funds are needed to speed up the work of this incomplete project.
He informed, “We have commenced the work but it is going on at a slow pace as the bill is pending with PWD Department which was approved. But National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has not paid us the amount yet. The exact amount to be paid is Rs 23.4 crore, which was approved by PWD but is yet to be released.”It may be recalled that the workers had gone on strike for delay in their payments, recently.
He further explained that every month the company has to spend around Rs 1.5 to 2 crore in salaries to the technicians, engineers and other workforce. Our liability has increased to 28 crore as we also have to pay to the sub contractors, material suppliers and for logistics etc.
Currently, around Rs 14 crore has to be sanctioned for the workers to expedite the work.
While providing more details on the project, Bramhapurkar stated that it was supposed to start in year 2015. But the acquired land was handed to the company two years later in 2017. But till now 80 per cent of the land is acquired. Remaining 20 per cent is pending due to Vasco ramp, shifting of pipelines work etc, which are multi-departmental works.
He also revealed that around 70 per cent of the project is completed. Vasco ramp work is awaiting land clearance from the Mormugao Municipal Council. Initially, the project was supposed to be completed in October 2018 but now it has been extended to January 2021.
