VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has resolved to assess new houses, outsource collection of garbage and also increase garbage collection fees by Rs 20.
MMC Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar said that the assessment of all the houses will enable the Council to collect garbage collection fees more effectively. He said “The garbage fees will be packaged into the House Tax fees. We have decided to increase the garbage fees by Rs 20 and now will be charging Rs 60 instead of Rs 40”.
“The new fees will be applicable from January. The contractor is going to use his labourers to collect garbage from municipal wards which will enable MMC staff labourers to be utilised elsewhere where it is most required”, Gaonkar added. Meanwhile, Councillor Deepak Naik demanded that the Council take action against the businesses operating without licences.
He further informed that the Council has decided to show the present tendered plan for the proposed fish market to the fish vendors before finalisation.
