Condemning the suspension of Additional District Judge Desmond D’Costa, the Vasco Advocates Association brought the evening court proceedings to a standstill in Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Vasco on Thursday.
The Vasco Advocates Association (VAA) showed its solidarity, as none of the advocates appeared for the proceeding in JMFC Vasco. The VAA also showed its solidarity to South Goa Advocates Association (SGAA).
As many as 29 cases were scheduled to be held in the evening in three courts (A, B and D) at JMFC Vasco. Since most of the advocates refrained from attending the court as they called pen down work to show solidarity towards SGAA, court rooms remained empty.
“It should have not happened to Judge D’Costa, as he is well conversant with law, honest and sincere with no bad record. Besides, he is often very cooperative and judge of such integrity facing such kind of suspension is a wrong signal to the entire judiciary,” said VAA Vice President Adv Rajan Naik.
He appealed the advocates and lawyers from Vasco to attend meeting called by the South Goa Advocates Association at District Court, Margao, on Friday at 10.30 am.
“Whatever happened is wrong and I feel he has been victimized,” said Adv Jeevan Divkar.
