VASCO: Vasco Police on Thursday arrested a 27-year-old resident of Shantinagar-Vasco on charges of molesting and sexual assaulting a nine-year-old girl.
According to Vasco Police, the girl’s mother, a daily wage labourer, complained that the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when they were not at home. Noticing the girl alone in the house, the accused, Guru Prasad Yadhav, entered the house and allegedly molested her.
Police further informed that later at night, the girl who was traumatized after the incident told her parents that the accused had unnatural sex with her. Police said the victim also informed her parents that the accused gave her Rs 30 and warned her not to inform anyone about the incident.
Acting on the complaint, Vasco Police arrested Yadhav from his residence at Fakir Galli, Shantinagar, under Sections 342, 354 A(i), 377, 506(ii) IPC and Section 8 of Goa Children Act and Section 4 & 12 of POCSO Act. PSI Gauttam Salunke is investigating the case.
Police said Yadav was produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class Court (JMFC) and was taken into one day police custody. The accused will be produced before the Children Court on Friday.
According to sources, Yadav was reportedly involved in illegal booking of Tatkal railway tickets and was earlier arrested by Vasco Police for procuring mobile SIM cards in bulk without documents which he used to sell to the ship crew who used to arrive at the port.
