VASCO: Fish vendors from Vasco on Monday finally agreed for the construction of new fish market at Vasco.
After debating about the new fish market during the last two meetings, the fish vendors agreed to allow construction of the new fish market at the existing fish market at Vasco. However, the fish vendors urged Vasco MLA and KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida to keep the market open on all sides. They also urged Almeida to stop all the satellite fish markets that have mushroomed all over the city before construction of the market.
The fish vendors said they are not in favour of any offices and flats on rest of the floors. Almeida refuted the rumours of constructing any offices and flats on the remaining floors of the market and to clear the misconception, Almeida told the fish vendors that he will not go ahead with parking of cars on the second floor and instead of having flat roof he will direct the consultant to construct a slopping roof.
Ex-president of Goa Fishing Boat Owners Association Michael Pereira urged Almeida to stop all the lamanis selling fish along the roadside in the city and other areas.
Sydney Furtado, president of Goa Fishing Boat Owners Association, explained to the fish vendors the need of the hour of the new fish market and urged them to cooperate with Almeida and allow construction of the market for the betterment of the fish vendors.
Almeida assured the fish vendors that he will stop all the lamanis selling fish along the roadside in the city and other areas within one week.
Almeida said he will direct Mormugao Municipal Council Chief Officer Y B Tavde to direct the market inspector and confiscate the fish. Almeida assured the fish vendors that at the time of construction of the new fish market, he will construct a temporary shed and shift them to alternate site and will complete the project within 10 months.
