Vasco MLA wants whole of Goa treated as one smart city

Says he would make a formal request to Parrikar to approach Centre on his ambitious proposal

VASCO: The Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Friday said that he would shortly make a formal representation before the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar requesting him to approach Union Ministry of Urban Development to consider whole of Goa as one smart city under the urban its Smart City project.
“Currently, works under Smart City Project is going on in Panjim, but I feel that all the major cities of Goa should be taken up at one time and not in a piecemeal considering several factors,” Almeida said.
He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Port Town Heritage Festival organised by Rotary Club of Vasco in association with History Lovers group at Ravindra Bhawan, Baina on Friday. During the festival, the organisers displayed old and rare photograph of Vasco town and priceless heritage collection for the public.
“Under smart city project, whole of Goa should be considered as one city. Goa is small and our population is less than any other city in India selected for Smart city project. Thye are closely located and hence whole of Goa should be considered as one smart city under the urban development ministry’s Smart City project. Vasco being a major city in State has highest population. It is well connected with all modes of transport,” he said.
