Vasco police raids truck containing animal bones

Vasco: Verna police raided a truck that was laden with animal bones in Tontem Morod, Cansaulim, following a complaint by a volunteer of Hindu outfit ‘Gau Raksha Dal’ on Wednesday.

Police suspect that the bones could be of cows and bulls and the same were procured from neighbouring states to make ghee and other items.
According to Verna police, they raided a shed inside a compound wall of a house in Tontem Morod and found around 8 to 10 large utensils, which were used to prepare ghee with the bones. However, no fat products were found at the site.
The police also found a truck that was laden with animal bones. They informed that the site may not be used to slaughter animals and that the shed owner might be only transporting the bones from neighbouring states.
Verna police summoned Dr Atanasia Fernandes, attached to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services in Vasco, who visited the site and claimed that she would submit a report about the bones to Verna police.
She said, “I cannot confirm anything now. I need to know the source of the bones, but it appears that they could be of cows and bulls.”
Police also summoned the shed owner Abdul Bepari. He disclosed that the transportation of the bones of bulls was his ancestral business, and he regularly transported bones of bulls slaughtered in Belgaum to his shed in Cansaulim to prepare fat products.
Verna PI Shailesh Narvekar said that he is verifying the information and based on the findings, he would register an offence.
