VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council has earned close to Rs 61 lakh in revenue from this year’s Lord Damodar Saptah fair. This year’s almost is much higher than the revenue generated from last year’s fair, according to MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut, who also added that it had exceeded their expectations and past records.
Speaking about last year’s figures, he said that it had generated around Rs 39 lakh. “This year, after putting everything in place, MMC has managed to earn revenue of Rs 61 lakh, which I feel is a great achievement as this has happened for the first time,” said Raut.
Raut elaborated that the revenue was generated from the 900 stalls including vendors, hawkers etc at the fair and emphasised that the stall fees were collected properly.
However, this news has come as a surprise to the many as heavy rains along with strong winds had led to a poor turnout as compared to fair’s previous years. Many vendors had also complained about the poor business this year for the same reason.
