VASCO: Vasco Traffic Cell on Thursday decided to deploy additional staff along the Zuari bridge to Verna slope road stretch to ensure quicker and smooth movement of traffic during the year end.

Passengers travelling through Agassaim to Verna road stretch facing the brunt of traffic congestion demanded permanent solution to the issue.
A cab driver said that since past four days he has been facing the traffic congestion at Agassaim road stretch.
Another car driver said that from few days he is witnessing vehicular congestion on the Agassaim to Verna road stretch, which result in further delay in his assigned works.
A tourist cab driver mentioned that from last one week he is facing traffic congestion at Zuari bridge stretch during peak hours. Some of the passengers have also missed their flights due to traffic jam.
When contacted Vasco Traffic Cell In-Charge Sudesh Narvekar said that the traffic congestion is witnessed at Zuari bridge and at Cortalim road stretch. There are various reasons behind the heavy traffic such as the construction work of the Zuari parallel bridge is in progress. Number of flights and the footfall of the tourists at Dabolim airport have increased. Tourist taxis, people working in IDC, Verna area during peak hours tend to commute which leads to heavy traffic movement.
Further, Narvekar said that he personally along with their dedicated traffic staff regulate the traffic movement. Nowadays, there is no major traffic jams and in case of vehicular accidents, we clear the area for movement of traffic as we have dedicated crane at Zuari bridge.
Commenting on the festive season related traffic, Narvekar said that he has brought to the notice of his superior that due to year end festivities, many tourists tend to come to Goa which also increases traffic movement. Considering this issue, additional 14 India Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel has been provided which will be deployed at various points to regulate traffic to ensure smooth traffic movement from Zuari bridge stretch.
