Residents of Benaulim caught red handed a vehicle near Pedda in the wee hours of Saturday discharging waste water and disposing off garbage along the road side.
A group of youngsters who were maintaining a close vigil over waste dumping along the road near St John the Baptist Church, Benaulim intercepted a Maruti van dumping at around 2.30 am while in the process of disposing off waste in plastic bags and discharging waste water.
A local resident Roque Fernandes said the van was caught red handed by the local youth and demanded that the police initiate stern action against the driver and the vehicle owner.
It is learnt that the youth detained the car at the site before calling the police and media shortly after dawn.
Roque said the road leading to the St John the Baptist Church was widely used by people specially in the mornings and evenings and demanded that the authorities crack a whip against establishments disposing off their kitchen waste and waste water along the road.
A Colva police team arrived on the spot and took stock of the situation.
Incidentally, when Herald called up the Colva police station in the evening, a police personnel informed that no action has been initiated against the van driver or the vehicle owner.
Feigning ignorance on the erring vehicle, the police personnel said that no crime report stands registered at the police station.
