VERDICT 2024: Capt. Viriato praises South Goa voters for victory; BJP workers blame RGP for cutting in votes (03.00 p.m)

Capt. Viriato Fernandes has attributed his victory to the people of South Goa as the congress held a victory celebration in anticipation of Capt. Viriato’s success in the South Goa Parliamentary elections. South Goa postal ballots are still left to be completed and the final figure will be updated once that’s done. With total votes of 2,15,672, Congress is a step ahead of the BJP who gained 2,00,969.

Whereas on the other hand, BJP workers present at the South Goa Counting Centre blamed RGP for cutting in votes from Shiroda and Marcaim constituencies. They expressed discontent with the losses in constituencies like Navelim, Cortalim, Nuvem, and Curtorim. Even in Margao, the margin for BJP’s victory was far smaller than expected.

In Shiroda, BJP got 12,524 votes, Congres 7,593 and RGP 2,809 votes

In Marcaim, BJP got 14,772, Cong 3974 and RGP 2573 votes

4763 votes polled for NOTA (None of the Above) higher than the combined votes of five candidates of South Goa Parliamentary constituency.

On the other hand in the Northern region of Goa, things are just the opposite from that of South Goa. Statistics are in favour of the BJP as Shripad Naik has expected to be victorious with 2,50,799 votes and Congress with 1,39,446 is still giving a tough competition.
