PANJIM: Stating that its takes time and years to build image and reputation, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant urged the media fraternity to follow norms of journalism while reporting and putting across facts in public domain.
Addressing the National Press Day function, Sawant exhorted upon journalists to verify facts, as responsible citizens before reporting and putting it in public domain.
He also urged them to follow norms of journalism while reporting sensitive cases.
Chief Minister has urged media to provide all support to government in building State’s image as investment destination and for undertaking various developmental works.
“A balanced view has to be put across before the people taking into account the larger interest of the State,” he said.
Speaking further, Sawant said that Directorate of Information and Publicity will soon shoulder additional responsibilities to propagate the ideas, policies and programmes in all sectors, modalities for which is being worked out.
During the event, a panel discussion on “Reporting Interpretation: A Journey”, was held.
Renowned journalist Lambert Mascarenhas was given Lifetime Achievement Award. Senior Journalists Alister Miranda, Mahesh Divekar and Ganadeep Sheldekar were felicitated for their meritorious contribution in the field of journalism.
