MARGAO: In a bid to tide over the acute waste problem plaguing the industrial estate, the Verna Industries Association is mulling setting up of a waste treatment plant as part of corporate social responsibility.
Association President Prashant Shinde told the media that they are in the final stage of getting a small plot from the Goa Industrial Development Association to set up the waste treatment plant. “Though we pay to the panchayat and have distributed bins to the neighbouring panchayat bodies, we have decided to set up a small waste treatment plant at the Verna Industrial Estate. We have been requesting the GSIDC for the last 2-3 years for plot of land, and we are optimistic that the plot will soon come in our possession. I am confident that Verna Industries Association will become the first to plan out a waste treatment plant to segregate different types of wastes. We are planning to try out on an experimental basis and will also talk to the Goa State Pollution Control Board to help us dispose of waste as per prescribed norms”, Shinde said.
Replying to a question, he said their innovative idea will take concrete shape no sooner the association receives the promised plot. “We have consulted at least three consultants. Our team has also visited the City Corporation of Panjim to seek their expertise on waste segregation and treatment”, he said, while disclosing plans to collect the waste from each and every unit and
get it segregated in a proper manner in the treatment plant.
