Verna police take custody of Mahanand

Verna police on Tuesday took the alleged serial killer, Mahanand Naik, into 10 days police custody in connection with the murder of Nirmala Gaonkar of Rivona at Verna Industrial Estate.
According to reports, Verna Police produced the alleged serial killer Mahanand Naik before Margao Judicial Magistrate and took him into 10 days police custody.
The dupatta killer, Mahanand, who has so far confessed to the killing 16 women, was brought to the Verna police station on Monday in connection with the murder of Nirmala Gaonkar of Rivona at Verna Industrial Estate in 2008.
Speaking to Herald, Verna Police Inspector Nolasco Raposo said that Mahanand Naik has been taken into custody from Panjim police station.
He further said that Mahanand was produced before Margao JMFC and has been remanded to 10 days police custody.

Ornaments recovered
Panjim police succeeded in recovering jewelry worth Rs 60,000 from serial killer Mahanand Naik, which he had robbed from Merces women.
Mahanand, who made headlines recently after admitting to have committed sixteen murders, was brought to Panjim police station on transfer warrant, in connection with a robbery case.
The 40-year-old Merces resident had complained that in 2006, Mahanand robbed her jewelry which she was wearing.
‘Mahanand who admitted to have committed the crime also disclosedwhich jeweler he had sold the ornaments,’ Panjim police inspector Francisco Corte told Herald and added that the police were successful in recovering the ornaments from the jeweler, who was based in Bicholim.(HR)
