MARGAO: Veteran Journalist Sitaram Tengse breathed his last at the age of 85 after a brief illness.

Tengse started his professional career as a teacher at Shree Nirakar Education Society, Mashem-Canacona, Damodar High School and Adarsha High School in Margao.
Teacher by profession, he later picked up the pen, working as a journalist in Daily Gomantvani. Later, he joined Daily Rashtramat as a sub-editor and moved up the ranks as News Editor, Deputy Editor and finally, Editor. He was best known for his hard-hitting editorials.
The Department of Information and Publicity, Government of Goa, conferred on Tengse the T B Cunha Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism for 2020. He was also a recipient of prestigious inaugural Tilak Puraskar for Excellence in Journalism by the State government and Laxmidas Borkar Memorial Journalism Award.
Tengse also contributed lot for several social institutions which include the Samaj Seva Sangh, Gomant Vidya Niketan and Marathi Vidnyan Parishad.
As an Editor of Daily Rashtramat, he played a prominent role in the social-political life of people of Goa. He was always on the side of downtrodden people, for democracy, secularism and socialism.
He was committed journalist and lived life on his own terms.
