Fatorda independent MLA Vijai Sardesai claimed that the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) is in favour of a grand alliance. “The Congress should first speak in one voice. Their legislature wing and State party organization speak in different voices as far as the issue of grand alliance is concerned,” Sardesai told media persons. “I challenge Congress to announce its chief ministerial candidate and then talk about other issues,” he added.
“Faleiro’s North-East India (where he was appointed party observer) will not work in Goa. Bihar’s grand alliance model needs to be replicated in the State to oust BJP,” the MLA said.
Congress had recently announced that it would make its stand clear on the issue of alliance before September 30. However, it wants like-minded forces to fight the elections under its leadership.
Sardesai said the grand alliance is a public sentiment they want to respect. “But if Congress doesn’t want it, we have no problem. Goa Forward can very well go independent,” he stated.
Congress MLAs including Digambar Kamat, Vishwajit Rane, Pandurang Madkaikar, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Jennifer Monserrate have been demanding that the party form a grand alliance for the 2017 polls.
