MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai and his archrival Damu Naik were once again involved in a game of one-upmanship over development works in the constituency.
Sardessai along with Margao Municipal Chairperson Arthur D’Silva and his supporters descended at Arlem to launch the work of road hotmixing at a cost of Rs 80 lakh. Incidentally, Sardessai refrained from breaking the sacred coconut, but preferred to get the work blessed by a priest.
He went on to say that road works in Fatorda constituency totaling Rs 12 crore will be completed before the onset of monsoons, including the hotmixing work from Arlem junction to Ravindra Bhavan.
Not to be left behind, Sardessai’s bete noire and GSUDA vice-chairman Damu Naik told the media that he was instrumental in getting hot mixing work launched today, approved a year ago.
“I had mooted the project and obtained the administrative and other approvals. The work order was issued to the contractor in 2011 during my tenure, but work was deliberately held up on the pretext of laying underground power cables”, he said.
The former BJP MLA said that his rival might try to gain mileage over the developmental works, but the records in the PWD will speak for itself.
“People cannot be fooled any longer. The records and documents will prove who has initiated the works in Fatorda”, Damu added.
