Vijai to be kingmaker

MGP with three seats to also play major role in government formation

MARGAO: With Goa Forward having won three seats, Vijai
Sardesai is set to play the role of kingmaker when government formation talks
begin.

Accepting that Goa is heading for a hung Assembly,
Sardesai said he would like to be a part of the government and implied that
whichever party emerges as the single largest party can expect his party’s
support.

He did not rule out aligning with the Congress
though the party let him down this time just as in 2012 it had denied him a
ticket.

Speaking on his victory margin of around 1300 votes
over BJP’s Damodar (Damu) Naik, Sardesai said he was not happy as he expected a
bigger lead.

Speaking to media persons Sardesai said the victory
has established him as a mass leader especially as the two major parties –
Congress and BJP – had joined hands to defeat him. “Luizinho Faleiro and Damu
had come together to work for my defeat and yet I won due to the work I have
done in the constituency for the last so many years and my connection with the
voters,” he said.

MGP that has won three seats will also have a major
say in the government formation.
