MARGAO: Detractors of Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai in the Margao Civic body saw red over his initiative to distribute garbage bins to the housing societies dotting Fatorda constituency.
A day after the MLA handed the bins to the office bearers of the housing societies with much fan fare, sources said that municipal officials who attended the bin distribution function at Sardesai’s residence were reportedly pulled up by city fathers inimical to the Fatorda MLA.
It is learnt that the officials were questioned over their presence at the function when it had nothing to do with the civic body.
The Fatorda MLA had distributed 100 wet and dry garbage bins to the 50 housing societies in Fatorda constituency as part of phase I of the ambitious project. The MLA’s Trust ‘We for Fatorda’ has plans to cover all the 291 housing societies of Fatorda.
The bins were handed over to the office bearers of the 50 societies at a function organized at the residence of Sardesai on Sunday in the presence of Fomento Green CEO Sridhar Kamat.
Kamat underlined the need for garbage segregation and explained how the plant at Sonsoddo plant which is being managed by Fomento Green will be able to work much more efficiently if garbage is segregated right at the source.
